Today might just be a runner’s favorite holiday—National Running Day! While die hard runners do not need a day to give life to their running spirit, having a day dedicated to running allows runners to appreciate the sport. Not to mention the motivation runners will have to day to lace up and enjoy their favorite physical activity. There will be lots of running events happening in New York today across the boroughs.
The National Running Day community on Meetup.com will have runs happening all day, so that you can link up with other runners in your area. Westin New York Grand Central will have a New Balance vending machine full of gear. Runners can tweet from the machine to get FREE shirts, shoes, and socks. Yankees pitcher David Robertson will then be hosting a 5k around Midtown.
The New York Running Company in the Time Warner Center will have raffles and snacks all day, and will host a “ladies night” run at 6:30 p.m. For runners who wish to give back, track your run with CharityMiles and choose the charity you wish to donate to. They will be giving away free stuff at 6:60 p.m. at Columbus Circle.
New York Road Runners have all day runs scheduled. These included early morning breakfast and fun runs, and a walk for the elderly. At 7 p.m. NYRR’s Team for Kids will be hosting a happy hour at The Parlour located on the Upper West Side, where there will be food, contests, swag, and those who attend can meet coaches to discuss the TCS New York City Marathon. You must RSVP.
There was giveaways from 7-10 a.m. in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, but BK runners can join Team Red, White, and Blue leaders who a group run at 6:30 at the Brooklyn Bridge near Pier 2. This run also includes giveaways from 5-7 p.m. JackRabbitSports Park Slop location will host a group run at 7 p.m., and they will be giving out sunglasses at all locations. Allison Feller, the digital and editorial manager told the Daily News that today is “Christmas for all runners.”
Also in Brooklyn, from 7-9:30 p.m. alt Brooklyn Bridge Park, there will be a Singlets Mixer Happy Hour at includes a group run and a happy hour at Formino’s rooftop on Pier 6. Runners in Astoria Park in Queens were able to enjoy a morning run with giveaways from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Bronx runners can join the group run with giveaways from 5-7 p.m. at Van Cortland Park.
Finally, Staten Islanders can enjoy a run in Clove Lakes Park from 1:30-7:30 p.m. Meet at the water stop off Clove Road and Cheshire where you can make your own National Running Day bib and lucky runners will get a five-borough bandana.
